Gold exhibitions for rainy days

Gold investors can thus far certainly call 2025 a golden year and everyone loves an Indian summer or golden autumn. However, rainy, dull and cold days tend to increase significantly come October and pose a welcome opportunity to visit an exhibition – and why not one focusing on gold? Read on for our tips on gold exhibitions across Germany and some of its neighbouring countries.
Germany meets China
The exhibition ‘China’s Gold and Gotha’s Treasures’ is on display in Gotha until 11 January 2026 at the Ducal Museum Gotha in eastern Germany. A city heavily focused on gold is Pforzheim in Baden-Württemberg, with several museums featuring permanent exhibitions on the subject of gold. It is not without reason that Pforzheim, which has been a centre for gold processing and jewellery manufacturing since 1767, is also known as ‘Gold City’. Also always worth a visit: the world’s only Fabergé Museum in Baden-Baden with numerous exhibits by to the court jeweller of Tsar Alexander III. For those who prefer to experience art actively, we recommend the immersive exhibition on the often gold-accented works of Dutch masters such as Rembrandt, Vermeer and Van Gogh at the Port des Lumières in Hamburg.
When in Paris...
An impressive exhibition at the Galerie d’Apollon in the Paris Louvre shows how gold was applied to decorate walls and ceilings: ‘Sun, Gold and Diamonds’ presents magnificent, gold-trimmed interior designs commissioned by the ‘Sun King’ Louis XIV.
Those interested in the origins of gold will find a wealth of information at the Rauris Talmuseum in the Hohe Tauern Mountains, Austria. Since 1937, the museum offers interesting insights into gold mining and processing in 17 exhibition rooms. Visitors to the museum can even explore one of the many historic mining tunnels in the surrounding Rauriser Valley. And one thing is true for all the gold exhibitions mentioned above: you’ll stay dry and warm throughout your visit!
