As most museums are gradually reopening to visitors, they are also introducing various security measures designed to protect against Covid-19. The elderly and anyone with health problems, alongside their closest relatives, will probably still shy away from visiting museums. Fortunately, there is no risk of infection in the two gold exhibitions we would like to present to you, as they are entirely virtual.
Special exhibition “Gold. Treasures at the Deutsche Bundesbank”
As a special treat for gold fans, the German Central Bank is hosting a three-dimensional exhibition offering a virtual tour through the world of the coveted precious metal until the end of September 2020. Starting with maps of the world’s gold deposits and exhibits of gold-bearing rock and river gold, the tour also presents gold coins from various centuries and recycled gold, gold bars of different origins and ages as well as coveted collectors’ coins. The exhibit also provides interesting and fun facts about gold in German or English.
Virtual exhibition “Gold & Glory” by the Basel Historical Museum
The digital exhibition “Gold & Glory – Gifts for Eternity” is also three-dimensional and lovingly animated. The exhibition was created on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the consecration of the Basel Cathedral in the presence of Henry II and presents the emperor’s numerous gold gifts, which formed the cornerstone of the Basel cathedral’s treasury. The exhibition comprises ten virtual rooms with an endless number of exhibits offering a variety of exciting facts at the click of a mouse. Gold fans of all ages are guaranteed hours of entertainment in German, English or French. A special digital children’s booklet is also part of the virtual tour.
